Shaun Valentine - BSc(Hons) FCIOB FBEng FAPM and FIoD Managing Director

Managing Director Shaun Valentine has worked in the construction industry for 28 years having begun his career with Ashby and Horner Joinery serving an approved apprenticeship as a Hardwood Bench Joiner.

Having qualified Shaun diversified his career into Contract Management working for many years in senior positions for some of the largest construction companies in the UK.

Graduating from Nottingham Trent University in June 1999 with a 2:1 Honours Degree in Building and Construction Management he applied for Corporate Membership of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) at which he had been an Associate member since 1989.

In 1999 he achieved Chartered Status of the CIOB entitling him to use the designation MCIOB.

He continued to study and is now a Fellow of the CIOB FCIOB and a Fellow of the Association of Building Engineers FBEng along with a Fellow of the Association of Project Managers FAPM and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors FIoD.

Shaun currently lectures at the University of East London for civil engineering students studying a Masters Degree in Engineering. Also he is a part time lecturer at Oakland's College Welwyn Garden City delivering tutorials for candidates studying towards CIOB accredited qualifications.

He now offers support to companies large and small from blue chip companies to smaller specialist businesses.

As a qualified Professional Interview Panel Chairman for the CIOB, Shaun often conducts interviews giving his time voluntarily. He is currently Chairman for the CIOB East of England Branch, and newly elected Chairman for the (UK) & Ireland Members Forum.

Recently he was invited to join the Chartered Building Company and Consultancy board and will serve for a period of three years.

Shaun's passion for the industry and education is clearly evident when he is in a classroom environment offering hands on experience and full student support.

He enjoys a good working relationship with all clients and is often referred to as a member of the team, actively promoting partnering. Shaun lectures on the Experienced Practitioner Assessment programme (EPA) and all other courses we provide.

Jackie Valentine - Operations Director & Centre Manager

Jackie began a career in retail management at the age of seventeen, spending five years within a managerial role before re-training to take up a career in accountancy.

Working within a local authority, she was responsible for a large team accountable for all purchasing and cost expenditure. After a further five years Jackie's passion for figures and paperwork saw her successfully take on a position with a leading liquefied petroleum gas distributor.

Her role running the Eastern distribution department was challenging and required her to obtain her first professional qualification in the transport and LPG sector.

Attending college, Jackie studied for her Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) National and (CPC) International recognised qualifications.

Within her 18 years with her employer, she qualified in Health and Safety and become the site safety representative carrying out regular site safety audits and accident/incident reporting and investigation.

She introduced the Quality Management system and assisted the company in obtaining its then BS5750 and ISO Quality Assurance registration.

Quality and procedural audits were her forte preparing the company for external audit.

In 2006 Jackie was elected onto the board of Devcon (UK) Ltd as company secretary, and in 2007 took the role of Operations Director responsible for the entire day to day running of the new Essex centre offices.

She manages the day to day accounts team and general office staff including a team of professionally qualified consultants all of which hold chartered status MCIOB FCIOB RICS.

Jackie's main duty also as centre manager makes her responsible for implementing the CIOB and Edexcel courses to the quality procedures expected by the external verifiers and awarding bodies.

Her involvement with our external assessors means she must demonstrate her ability to control, monitor and coordinate the many consultants Devcon (UK) Ltd employ.

Setting the standards and most importantly maintaining them is paramount to our success as without this our accreditation would be in jeopardy.

Jackie now intends to take the business to a new height in 2009 expanding our client base and offering Management courses outside of the construction industry, and also internationally.

This in turn, will allow the Managing Director to spend more time networking with our existing clients and perspective clients building a firm foundation for the future.
